Film this Thurday 23st November

Hi guys,NUFS are going to be having our next meeting this Thursday (23st) at the Cameo at 6pm.This week’s film will be The Page Turner at 6.35pm. Tickets are £2.

Film Description: Mélanie Prouvost, a ten-year-old butcher’s daughter, is a gifted piano player. That is why her parents and herself decide that she sit for the Conservatory entrance exam. Mélanie is very likely to be admitted, unfortunately she gets distracted by the president of the jury’s offhand attitude and she fails. Ten years later, Mélanie becomes the former president of the jury’s page turner, waiting patiently to be revenged…

As usual, we will try to decide which film to see next week at the meeting, but if you can’t make it on Thursday please do email suggestions to nufs@napier.ac.uk <mailto:nufs@napier.ac.uk> .If you’d like to be taken off our mailing list, please email me. I’ve noticed that I’m spamming hundreds of you, but only the committed few keep coming back.

Cheers,

Hilary

Film this Thursday 12th October

NUFS are going to be having our next meeting this Thursday (12th) at the Cameo at 6pm. We’ll be meeting in the bar as usual and will be seeing a film later at Cineworld at Fountain Park. Unless we get Brass Monkey’s sorted out and we go there instead. For a look at Brass Monkey’s there’s a link to the right, which takes you to an Edinburgh webguide and has a picture! Wow! Ok, so this is the plan, so far:

This week’s film will be Clerks II at 6.55pm.
Film Description: Slacker workmates Dante Hicks and Randal Graves are thrown a curveball when their convenience store burns down. The friends find work at the local Hooby’s fast food restaurant under manageress Becky, where server Elias wreaks constant havoc. When Dante and his fiancee Emma make plans to get married and leave town, Becky wrestles with her true feelings for her employee and resolves to reveal her heart to Dante before it is too late.

As usual, we will try to decide which film to see next week at the meeting, but if you can’t make it on Thursday please do email suggestions to nufs@napier.ac.uk .

If you’d like to be taken off our mailing list, please email me. I’ve noticed that I’m spamming hundreds of you, but only the committed few keep coming back.

Cheers,

Hilary

Welcome back!

Hello, hello, hello!

And welcome to all our new members! Hope you’ve had a good summer and are all ready and refreshed to go back to uni.

NUFS are going to be having our first meeting this Thursday (5th) at the Cameo at 6pm. We’ll be meeting in the bar as usual and will be seeing a film later.

This week’s film will be An Inconvenient Truth at 6.50pm.
Film Description: Former Vice President Al Gore shares his concerns on the pressing issue of global warming in this riveting and timely documentary. A long-time environmental activist, Gore first became aware of evidence on global warming in the 1970s, and since leaving public office he has become a passionate advocate for large- and small-scale changes in laws and lifestyles that could help alleviate this crisis. An Inconvenient Truth records a multi-media presentation hosted by Gore in which he discusses the scientific facts behind global warming, explains how it has already begun to affect our environment, talks about the disastrous consequences if the world’s governments and citizens do not act and shares what each individual can do to help protect the Earth for this and future generations.

Cheers,

Hilary

Welcome!

Napier University Film Society hosts regular movie screenings and committee meetings in Edinburgh.

It’s for students and Edinburgh residents with an interest in less well known, quality films — more so of the independent variety. It’s not only for Filmhouse and Cameo regulars, but anybody who would like to widen their cinema experience beyond the Edinburgh multiplexes.

We host weekly Film Nights, special event screenings, and society parties. So if you’re fed up with going to the mainstream cinemas on your own or you found yourself more taken by Amelié than Charlie’s Angels, come and join the Napier University Film Society!

Any Edinburgh resident or Napier University students/alumni are welcome to come to one of our meetings or events to see what we do. If you decide to join the society a small membership fee is required, which will go towards an events fund, but you are welcome to attend one event without committing to membership.

Once you are a member, all events are (of course) optional, and jobs within the society are voluntary. If you’re interested, just get in touch and we’ll go from there!

The main points of what we can offer:

  • We’re one of the best and largest student-run non-sports societies at NU
  • You get to see independent films around Edinburgh with like-minded, unpretentious cinema fanatics
  • You’re entitled to NUFS-specific discounts at selected cinemas
  • The chance to be a part of the Society Committees (good experience/CV fodder) at the AGM
  • Film Nights all year round (usually weekly)
  • Special event screenings i.e. Halloween and Christmas
  • End-of-term parties!
  • We’re all really friendly and welcoming… whether you’re an indie virgin or an experienced multiplex-avoider, there are all levels of interest within the membership ranks!

To learn more, enquiries about the society should be sent to: nufs@napier.ac.uk
