NUFS are going to be having our next meeting this Tuesday (30th) at The Cameo Bar from 6pm for some drinks, then onto the film. This week’s film will be “Eastern Promises”, showing at 6.50pm. Tickets are £2 for members. If you’d like to join the society, our membership is only £2.
Film Description: “The film follows the mysterious and ruthless Nikolai (Viggo Mortensen), who is tied to one of London’s most notorious organized crime families. His carefully maintained existence is jarred when he crosses paths with Anna (Naomi Watts), an innocent midwife trying to right a wrong, who accidentally uncovers potential evidence against the family. Now Nikolai must put into motion a harrowing chain of murder, deceit, and retribution.”
NUFS will be meeting in the Filmhouse Bar this Thursday (25th) from 7.30pm, then going to see The Counterfeiters at 8.45pm. Tickets are £3 for members.
Film Description: “A devastatingly effective wartime thriller, based upon real events. In 1936, the Nazis established the largest counterfeiting operation in history, with the intention of flooding the British and American economies with fake currency. Enlisted to assist were any concentration camp inmates with skills in the right department – among them master forger, gambler and playboy Salomon Sorowitsch. Wonderfully played here by Karl Markovics, ‘Sally’ is a charismatic rogue who is at first energised by his new task (and by the superior quarters and treatment that his status affords him). But as the war grinds on, the moral frailty of Sally’s position becomes more and more apparent, and he must choose which side he’s on. Absolutely gripping, and crackling with class and intelligence, this is an instant classic – and a must for anyone who loved The Lives of Others. German soundtrack with English Subs.”

Hey folks!
A lot’s happened since our last meeting on Thursday. Rob and I have been working hard to try to make NUFS more fun and interesting for everyone. We’ve spoken with the Filmhouse and have managed to get members £3 tickets when attending a NUFS meeting. That’s £1.50 off normal student prices, meaning more money for drinks! To celebrate our new working relationship with the Filmhouse we’re going to see The Counterfeiters at 8.45pm. Tickets are £3! Woohoo!
We’re also adding an extra film night, so we’ll be watching films on a Tuesday and a Thursday. Film suggestions are more than welcome!
Our special meeting at Brass Monkey on Thursday 1st November will be a sci-fi 50s B-movie theme night. We’ll be showing films like War of the Worlds, Forbidden Planet, It Came From Outer Space, Journey to the Centre of the Earth, etc.
So, to recap, NUFS will be meeting in the Filmhouse Bar this Thursday (25th) from 7.30pm, then going to see The Counterfeiters at 8.45pm. Tickets are £3 for members.

Hey folks,

NUFS are going to be having our next meeting this Thursday (18th) at The Filmhouse’s Cafe Bar from 7.30pm for some drinks, then onto the film. This week’s film will be “And When Did You Last See Your Father“, showing at 8.30pm. I’m not sure what the ticket price will be yet, as we’re still trying to talk the filmhouse into giving us a discount. Also, if you’d like to join the society, our membership is only £2.
Film Description: “Based on Blake Morrison’s best selling memoir, “And When Did You Last See Your Father?”, is ultimately a father son love story. From scholarly Blake’s fraught and some times humiliating teenage years growing up with a charismatic, overbearing and adulterous father; through to the ultimate grief of watching him die, as an adult and father himself, the story takes us on a heart-rending and often humorous journey in which Blake revisits his past, comes to terms with some difficult home truths and finally learns to accept that one’s parents are not always accountable to their children. Starring Jim Broadbent and Colin Firth.” Suggestion for what we see next? Email me at nufs@napier.ac.uk !Hope to see you there!

Hi folks,
NUFS are going to be having our next meeting this Thursday (11th) at The Cameo Bar from 6pm for some drinks, then onto the film. This week’s film will be Control, showing at 6.20pm. Tickets are £2.
Film Description: Control, starring Sam Riley and Samantha Morton, directed by Anton Corbijn. One of the headliners at the Edinburgh International Film Festival 2007, Control is a biopic of Ian Curtis, the singer of Joy Division whose personal and professional problems led him to commit suicide at 23. Accurately titled, the film follows Curtis’ attempts to control his intense musical talent, his separation from his childhood sweetheart Debbie, and his affair with his Belgian girlfriend Annik. More importantly, we follow Curtis’ struggle with his epilepsy, the catalyst that accelerates his distant behaviour from his friends and family, and eventually leads to his death at the age of 23, all played to a kicking soundtrack!
As usual, we will try to decide which film to see next week at the meeting, but if you can’t make it on Thursday please do email suggestions to nufs@napier.ac.uk.
Hope to see you there!
