Hey folks!
A lot’s happened since our last meeting on Thursday. Rob and I have been working hard to try to make NUFS more fun and interesting for everyone. We’ve spoken with the Filmhouse and have managed to get members £3 tickets when attending a NUFS meeting. That’s £1.50 off normal student prices, meaning more money for drinks! To celebrate our new working relationship with the Filmhouse we’re going to see The Counterfeiters at 8.45pm. Tickets are £3! Woohoo!
We’re also adding an extra film night, so we’ll be watching films on a Tuesday and a Thursday. Film suggestions are more than welcome!
Our special meeting at Brass Monkey on Thursday 1st November will be a sci-fi 50s B-movie theme night. We’ll be showing films like War of the Worlds, Forbidden Planet, It Came From Outer Space, Journey to the Centre of the Earth, etc.
So, to recap, NUFS will be meeting in the Filmhouse Bar this Thursday (25th) from 7.30pm, then going to see The Counterfeiters at 8.45pm. Tickets are £3 for members.
Film Description: “A devastatingly effective wartime thriller, based upon real events. In 1936, the Nazis established the largest counterfeiting operation in history, with the intention of flooding the British and American economies with fake currency. Enlisted to assist were any concentration camp inmates with skills in the right department – among them master forger, gambler and playboy Salomon Sorowitsch. Wonderfully played here by Karl Markovics, ‘Sally’ is a charismatic rogue who is at first energised by his new task (and by the superior quarters and treatment that his status affords him). But as the war grinds on, the moral frailty of Sally’s position becomes more and more apparent, and he must choose which side he’s on. Absolutely gripping, and crackling with class and intelligence, this is an instant classic – and a must for anyone who loved The Lives of Others. German soundtrack with English Subs.”

Hope to see you there!

Hello, hello, hello!
And welcome to all our new members! Hope you’ve had a good summer and are all ready and refreshed to go back to uni.
NUFS are going to be having our first meeting on Thursday (4th Oct) at Brass Monkey from 7pm.
For the fresh bloods, Brass Monkey’s is a bit of a tradition for NUFS, and a really good one at that!
Brass Monkey is a pub off South Bridge, but it’s not just any old pub, it has it’s own very private, very cosy cinema in the back.
To get to Brass Monkey, located on Drummond Street, you can easily get any Lothian Bus that goes down the Bridges, eg the nos 3, 5, 30, 31, 33, 37, 47 and get off at the Festival Theatre.
However, if you have any problems, get a little lost (like I always do), feel free to email us, or phone me on 0780 325 7194.

For those who aren’t familiar with Edinburgh, Brass Monkey is located on the Bridges , to get there, you can easily get any Lothian Bus that goes down the Bridges, eg the nos 3, 5, 30, 31, 33, 37, 47 and get off at the Festival Theatre.

The Metropolitan Film School have invited us along to a Digital Filmmaking Workshop, which we are hosting exclusively for University Film Societies from all across the country this summer.
“The aim of the day is to bring University Film Societies together in a non-competitive environment and offer you a chance to participate in a day of workshops led by industry professionals on Digital Film Production, Post-Production, Distribution and Exhibition at the famous Ealing Studios in
West London. Throughout the day you will also have plenty of opportunity to meet and work with fellow filmmakers from other Universities and an evening drinks and screening session will allow you to watch some of each others short films and chat about your own societies and discuss any upcoming projects. This event is to be held on Wednesday 4 July 2007 at our Ealing Studios facilities.
The workshop will run from 11am – 5pm with the evening drinks and screening session following on from 5pm – 7pm. Hey folks,
Just a note to remind everyone to vote. I did. And so did Pete.
Two students are standing against each other for NSA President (Martin Couper vs Aran Simm), two for Treasurer and Student Activities Officer (Frank Anderson vs David Waddell), and Darren Gleeson stands uncontested in his bid to be re-elected as Veritas Editor.
Voting is running at all the campuses. So do it. It’s your right as a Napier student, and more importantly as a member of a Napier society. These folk give us money.
Cheers,
Hilary.
