NUFS are going to be having our next meeting this Thursday (30st) at the Cameo at 6pm.

This week’s film will be Pan’s Labyrinth at 6.25pm. Tickets are £2.

Film Description: A fairytale for adults inspired by the paintings of Francisco Goya and rooted, like THE DEVIL’S BACKBONE, in the context of war, this is del Toro’s most accomplished work in his own opinion. In 1940s Spain, recently remarried Carmen (Gil) and daughter Ofelia (Baquero) move in with the cold and authoritarian new husband, Vidal (López), a captain in General Franco’s army. Finding her new life difficult, Ofelia seeks refuge in a labyrinth she discovers next to the house. A magical creature named Pan, the guardian of the labyrinth, reveals that Ofelia is the long-lost princess of a magical kingdom. To discover the truth, she will have to accomplish three dangerous tasks. Del Toro’s startling vision rests on a profoundly moving story with universal appeal.

As usual, we will try to decide which film to see next week at the meeting, but if you can’t make it on Thursday please do email suggestions to nufs@napier.ac.uk .

If you’d like to be taken off our mailing list, please email me. I’ve noticed that I’m spamming hundreds of you, but only the committed few keep coming back.

Cheers,

Hilary

NUFS are going to be having our next meeting this Thursday (16th) at the Cameo at 6pm.We’ll be meeting in the bar as usual and will be seeing a film later at the Filmhouse. This week’s film will be Red Road at the Filmhouse at 8.30pm. Tickets are £4.30.

Film Description: Jackie works as a CCTV operator. Each day she watches over a small part of the world, protecting the people living their lives under her gaze. One day a man appears on her monitor, a man she thought she would never see again, a man she never wanted to see again. Now she has no choice, she is compelled to confront him.
One of the main talking points at this year’s Cannes Film Festival (not only a rare competition appearance for a debut feature but also, even rarer, one of two British films in competition this year), Arnold walked away with a well-deserved Jury Prize. With a genuine feel for the working class milieu it depicts and unflinching in its portrayal of female sexuality, Red Road would appear to announce the arrival of a major new, British, talent.

NUFS are going to be having our next meeting this Thursday (9th) at the Cameo at 6pm.

We’ll be meeting in the bar as usual and will be seeing a film later at Cineworld at Fountain Park. This week’s film will be Scenes of a Sexual Nature at Cineworld at 8.55pm.

Film Description: Sex and love. Some seek it, some need it, some spurn it and some pay for it, but we’re all involved in it. Set on one afternoon on Hampstead Heath, London, the film investigates the minutiae of seven couples. The film is a comedic and erotically charged look at what makes us tick, and it seems that what makes us tick is complex, dark and ludicrously funny. Starring Ewan McGregor, Hugh Bonneville, Sophie Okonedo, Eileen Atkins, Adrian Lester.
As usual, we will try to decide which film to see next week at the meeting, but if you can’t make it on Thursday please do email suggestions to nufs@napier.ac.uk <mailto:nufs@napier.ac.uk> .
